The Cuesta de los Olivos is made from 100% Mencia grapes, that you may or may not have heard of, from Ribeira Sacra in Galicia, Spain. Using the wild, native yeasts that are local to the area, this wine is not only a delicious example of mencia as a varietal, but is also a stunning example of sense of place.
Fruit is the hero of this wine that wears a cape of graphite-y minerality, toasted spices and an edge of balsamic that gives a beautiful lifted depth to the flavours in the juice.
Mencia is an oft overlooked heavy hitter in the light wine world that deserves whatever place in the spotlight that it finds.
